Paul commands Christians to “be subject” to the “authorities” (ἐξουσίαις, exousiais). Why? Because (“for”) every governing authority has been appointed by God (Romans 13:1). This leads Paul to conclude that whoever resists “the authority” resists “the decree of God” and will receive judgment (Romans 13:2).
