English summary:

This video focuses on the direct trauma ASL Deaf people experience while they’re learning ASL. There are four major trauma vectors: Environmental, Social, Educational, and Institutional. Environmental examples include class amd location. Poverty can have an impact as well as whether the place we live in has clean air and water. Social examples include one’s family of origin. Are members struggling with addiction, mental health, and disability? Educational factors are the setting (type of school, whether mainstreamed or deaf school) and philosophy (oral, religious, and so on.) Institutional vectors include monolingualism (linguicism), audiocentralism (audism), and capitalism. Those four vectors have a great impact on our unconscious mind. We must take the time to look at the trauma we experienced while learning ASL to help with our healing process. If we continue to ignore what we experienced, we may not be able to grow our fluency. The next video will take a look at our present to see how we can help our healing process.
