ALEXANDER: My NAD internship inspired me. I felt good about being able to work with Deaf communities to advocate for more access in the world for all. Hi! I'm Alexander Van Hook, people call me Alex. I did a summer internship in 2014, thanks to the Nancy J. Bloch Leadership and Advocacy Scholarship. I learned a lot about policy work. For example, I helped develop a survey about airport communication access. I did a number of things during my NAD internship. I decided to do an internship at the NAD because I knew it would be a unique experience. Doing an internship at the NAD meant I could communicate with everyone in sign language, which was cool! That internship was part of my journey to becoming a disability rights advocate. And now, almost 10 years later -- it's a full circle for me as I return to the NAD as a full-time staff attorney! If you want the same amazing experience I had in 2014, go ahead and apply for the Nancy J. Bloch Leadership and Advocacy Scholarship opportunity for this summer, in 2024.]
