The Czech Deaf community was impacted by the Dec. 21 mass shooting at Charles University. Professor Alena Macurova, who is called the mother of Czech Sign Language, was injured and nine of her students, who were taking “Introduction to Sign Language Linguistics,” were among the 14 killed. Here is an interview with a Czech Deaf alumnus, Marie Maslanova, who is able to explain more about the incident and the tributes from the Deaf community there.
