1 Jesus and his cdisciples walked in a dwheat_field. It was on a eSabbath day. His disciples were fhungry and they started to gpick hheads_of_wheat to eat. 2 When the iPharisees jsaw it, they said to Jesus: ‘Why are your kdisciples lpicking wheat on the mSabbath day? The nlaws say we may not work on a Sabbath day.’ 3 Jesus said to them: ‘Did you not read what David did when he and his men were ohungry and they had no food? 4 David went into the ptemple and he ate the qholy bread on the table that only the rpriests may eat.s 5 And the tlaws of Moses say that the upriests must work in the vtemple on the wSabbath day.x But no one says they are wrong or they break the law of the Sabbath day when they do that. 6 I tell you: There is Someone here who is much more yimportant than the ztemple and that is I. 7 You must understand what these words in the aOld_Testament bmean: “The cLord said, I do not want dofferings. I want you to be good to other people.”e If you fcould understand these words, then you gwould not haccuse my idisciples. They have done nothing wrong. 8 I, the jSon of man, am kLord and I can ldecide what people may do on the mSabbath day.’
