LEILA: Many of you probably know that I love going to music festivalssss! Many of you also asked me how to request interpreters or other ADA accommodations. So, it depends. Some festivals like ACL and LaLa have a system in place when they receive requests, they know what to do and find the best interpreters for the job and so on. Unfortunately, many other music festivals, concerts, and events don’t provide the same champ accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing attendees. BUT I have great news! The NAD has an advocacy letter you can use and show it to them – first, you gotta buy your ticket, then you can show them the letter that outlines what they need to do. “It’s the law! The NAD says so.” Anyway, I’ll show you where to find the advocacy letters. First, type in NAD.org in your browser.

LEILA: On your phone, go to the menu and click on RESOURCES. Then you’ll see ADVOCACY LETTERS. There’s a letter for different purposes, go to EVENTS AND ENTERTAINMENT and you’ll see the advocacy letter for FESTIVALS AND CONCERTS. Click on that and you’ll see the letter. The letter is complete and ready for you to use with the organizers as it’ll tell them what to do.
