Deaf parents who are bringing up both Deaf and children hearing children (also referred to as Kodas, or Kids of Deaf Adults) can encounter unique challenges. What works for a Deaf child may not always be an ideal option for a hearing child, and vice versa. It takes flexibility and constant adaptation to make sure each child’s needs are met and identities honored. Emily shares her experience raising a Deaf child and a hearing child in a family where ASL is the primary language.
