Language deprivation is a topic widely discussed in the Deaf community - and for very good reason. How much do hearing people actually understand about language deprivation though? Not a whole lot, as evidenced by how very few hearing parents of Deaf children choose to learn ASL, and make sure their Deaf children have access to ASL. Medical professionals, speech and language therapists, audiologists, and oralist educators continue to ignore the far-reaching negative consequences of language deprivation. It is a 100% guarantee that language deprivation will impact Deaf people who are denied access to ASL. Sometimes the impact is obvious at a young age; other times the Deaf person learns how to "fake it", and the impact may be invisible to others, but the consequences of not having access to a visual and fully accessible language are there, nevertheless.
