To send a follow up email or not to... do it only if you haven't heard back from your interviewers in a while! Don't forget to thank your interviewers right after your interview though!

[TRANSCRIPT & DESC: A screen recorded online event of four women on Zoom. They are Renate Rose, Tyese Wright, Gisella Tomita, and Lori Taylor.

RENATE: How important is it to send a follow up email after an interview?

(an animated slide appears with a dark greyish-blue brick as the background. Question bubbles appear with Q and A, and a bold white text appeared, "Should I follow up?")

LORI: It’s very important to follow up - it’ll ensure that you want the job. Before you follow up, it’s important to thank them for the interview. When your interview is over, send them a thank you and “hope to hear from you” email. Wait around two weeks, if they haven’t contacted you - go ahead and follow up. Maybe they needed a little more time. It really depends on the company.

GISELLA: If it’s related to the interview and not hearing back at all, go ahead and contact them. But sometimes they will let you know that they are not offering you the job, don’t feel heartbroken - yes, it hurts. Keep going with your job search. Try again. Maybe your resume and your job experience needs revising. Keep in mind, most companies look for work experience that are more than six months or even a year long or even two years minimum - depending on the position. You can work on your work experience by volunteering, trainings, or internships. Grab any opportunities that are offered to you. Your resume will look more appealing to job interviewers and they will hire you!

TYESE: You can reach out to their human resources (HR) to follow up if you haven’t heard back from your interviewers about your application or your interview. You can ask if you’re hired or if they have feedback to share with you. This is a good other contact to have.
