JIMEL: YLC is a month long - it can be incredibly hard to leave your home, friends, and family. It’s not easy. For some, we know having cultural food is very important, family and friends can send you packages at YLC so you can such food and snacks to feel “back at home” while at YLC. At YLC, we value different cultures -- we're always open for suggestions or feedback on how we can best accommodate you and your cultural needs. We’re ready to make changes to become more culturally inclusive and to maximize knowledge through our social justice classes (which is a part of our curriculum). Also, we invite different guest presenters to provide workshops about their culture(s) and perspective(s). We know four weeks away at camp is LONG! But hey, think about this - this is just four weeks compared to the rest of your life. This is a great opportunity for you to grab opportunities and be a leader, learn who you are, learn how you can empower your community and how to change things for the better going forward. Now, the real thinking starts - “Do I really want to go to YLC?” We say, go ahead and apply now! Later, we can figure out next steps together.]
