What it is like being a GODA (Grandchild of Deaf Adult)? Are they treated the same as CODAs or differently because their parents are not Deaf? What about if they grew up with their Deaf grandparent?

Do you know Brandon Kazen-Maddox? Brandon is a GODA BUT is also a super talented artist!

Check this out! A heartwarming interview about Brandon's journey and what he's doing with the Deaf artist community.

Brandon is a co-founder of UP UNTIL NOW COLLECTIVE, a new non-profit organization committed to radical empathy, inclusivity, accessibility and equity. Link

During summer 2021 Brandon and his company Body Language Productions worked as the lead ASL provider at cultural institutions such as The Shed, Little Island and Park Avenue Armory. You can also find their newest artistic works on Broadstream called SOUL(SIGNS): ASL Playlist, which is a set of ASL music videos highlighting songs by Black female artists in ASL. Link

As a recent New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) grantee, Brandon is creating an ASL Dance Theatre reimagining of Andrew Lippa’s WILD PARTY, directed by Alexandria Wailes and co-directed by his partner Kevin Newbury. Link

Check out a conversation between Alexandria Wailes and Brandon about Deaf access in dance and theatre  for “Sorry I Missed Your Show” at Gibney Dance on December 8th. Link
