Based on Genesis 1:14-18, Gen 1:14  And Elohim said, “Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and appointed times, and for days and years,  Gen 1:15  and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth.” And it came to be so.  Gen 1:16  And Elohim made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night, and the stars.  Gen 1:17  And Elohim set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,  Gen 1:18  and to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And Elohim saw that it was good."
