Norway’s Teater Manu is a highly respected Deaf theater that receives the equivalent of $2 million a year in funding. It was founded 20 years ago by a Deaf woman named Mira Zuckermann. The theater selected a hearing woman to be its new director, which has sparked outrage in Deaf communities and other deaf theaters across Europe.
