SMITA: I’m Smita.

ARLENE: We’ve gotten several sign name submissions for the Vice President Kamala Harris. What is the official sign name? Bummer...sorry, not yet! We are aware that we should have assigned a sign name ready for Vice President Kamala Harris before the inauguration. So that sign name can be widespread to the ASL community including interpreters.

CANDACE: Know that name signs have a rich cultural heritage within the Deaf community. After having conversations with the team, we agreed that it is ok to take some time to study Kamala Harris’ character traits, personality, and typical behavior while acting as a VP. This truly applies to parents giving a birth to a baby and takes a while to identify its unique personality/character between a few months to 2-3 years. It’s the same concept.

SMITA: In this special case(situation), we, of course, won’t make you wait too long to decide on an official name sign! Promise! Fingers crossed! We will make an announcement about the official sign name on our Facebook and Youtube pages.
