KIM: In each state constitution, a General Assembly or State Legislature is created with two chambers, the House of Representatives or Assembly and the State Senate. The Federal Government has the same structure and is called Congress, they have House of Representatives and Senate. What are their duties? There are some similarities and differences with the House and Senate. During elections, people can run to be a part of the State House of Representatives or the State Senate. Each chamber member has the responsibility of representing their district, passing legislations and passing the budget. Those are the similarities, but what are the differences? The House of Representatives usually start writing the State budgets and gather information to make it a proposal. When it is passed in a vote, it is brought over to the Senate to vote on. The House also starts gathering information on the tax code and makes changes. If they feel the need to call for an investigation for a vote of impeachment. If there is a case for impeachment, it is brought over to the Senate. The Senate’s duties if there is an impeachment, they have to investigate, go to court and vote on the impeachment. When the Governors appoint people for positions, the Senate has to approve them.
