MELMIRA I RECLAIMING DISABILITY

"I’m really sick of that idea that being deaf is not a disability. It feels like they think they’re better. There’s nothing wrong with disabilities." - Elle Zusi Livengood, Disability Advocate
I chatted with Elle about why "disability" shouldn't be a dirty word in our community and how we need to watch our language when we describe "others".
PS - We also share how we first connected on Instagram when Elle gently explained to me why me using the word "lame" wasn't appropriate.
In lieu of us learning from Elle during this conversation, Elle would like to ask for donations to Helping Educate to Advance the Rights of Deaf Communities -... or The Autistic Self Advocacy Network.
