Preserve the Colony. Save the Bees!
VIDEO DESCRIPTION/ TRANSCRIPT: Video starts with an animation of the deafgreenthumbs logo then fades into a montage of flowers of varying colors with white text reading “Plant Flowers Nourish Life” then fades into B seated inside a greenhouse. B is facing the camera and wearing the deafgreenthumbs t-shirt. Video fades out to an animation of the deafgreenthumbs logo and a list of social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
B: We all know that the Deaf Community can be viewed as a collective. We support and uplift each other towards success, is that correct? Think about how similar we are to bees. There are bees that reside within a colony. Some bees are solitary bees. Every bee plays an incredibly important role in supporting our food system and life. We need pollinators. We may be asking ourselves how we can lend support to our bees so they may survive especially those bees who are solitary bees.
B holds up a wooden bee home.
B: This is a home for bees. It is truly neat. It has those sticks with hole openings for bees to tuck away inside during stormy weather. This home is a safe place for them to hunker down throughout such conditions. Akin to the Deaf Community, sometimes some Deaf people are forging their own paths on their own in the world. Those Deaf individuals may not be involved in the Deaf Community. They may not have had access to sign language or Deaf education. Nevertheless, they need a place to go to in order to receive support from the Community just like bees. You may be curious how you can better protect your environment for the bees. Do It Yourself (DIY) bee home kits are available via search engines online with step by step instructions on how to construct a bee home. Materials from your home and yard can be salvaged for the purpose of making a bee home. Go do it!
