Selectivity in friendship — why does it matter? What does it look like?

This weekend’s experience was a reinforcement in my deep belief that we all need more practice in feeling comfortable setting boundaries. It is too easy to feel the weight of guilt when we are working with a misinformed conscious.

It is our right, our responsibility to ourselves, to set boundaries and implement filters of selectivity to those whom we choose to keep around us — we can’t control who we work with or everyone we come into contact with — however who we choose to spend our free time with is a space entirely ours to guard and defend.

I am who I am largely due to the people I keep around me. I’ve always said, and truly do believe, that any success I experience in life is a shared success — I am able to reach higher, journey farther, and dig deeper only because my life’s river is a confluence of whole bodies of OCEANS pouring into me, overflowing the boundaries of restrictive riverbanks —widening my path, deepening my wellspring, and further nurturing the reach of my ripples.

With the wrong group of people my life story could be drastically different.

This week I hope we all welcome greater discernment and less guilt when it comes to relationships we decide to keep close and those we choose to keep at a distance.

Be well my friends!
