Deaf football player, Gary Washington’s last game for University of Colorado scored a 72 yard touchdown run in a 23-0 win over Kansas State at Folsom Field. He was carried over the field on the shoulders of his teammates, and the fans gave him a standing ovation. (Denver Post, 2013) Washington was also awarded the most courageous player in the nation awarded by President Richard Nixon. He succumbed to cancer on August 5, 2013.
