We're excited to release a new weekly series highlighting deaf people at work! Starting tomorrow, we will release a video about a deaf person and what they do, every Wednesday. Follow our #DeafAtWork series on social media!

VIDEO DESC & TRANSCRIPT: The NAD logo appears on bottom right corner as a watermark. NAD CEO Howard A. Rosenblum is standing in front of the NAD Front Desk in the NAD Headquarters lobby.

HOWARD: Deaf people can do anything in different fields of work. It's important for deaf youth and other deaf people to meet other people who work in various careers. After meeting that person with a specific job, they'll realize they can work at that specific job too! That's how I became a lawyer. When I was a young 12-year-old kid, my mom took me to watch a presentation about a deaf lawyer, his name was Lowell Myers. I wasn't really interested at first but mom wanted me to go so eventually I gave in and went. I was mesmerized and inspired by his presentation! Thanks to him, I wanted to become a lawyer. My experience can happen the same for many other deaf youth and deaf people who aren't sure about their career plans. Once they see a deaf person within a specific career, they may feel inspired to enter the same field or be the first to create another field. This empowerment process is important. The National Deaf Center started a social media campaign "deaf at work" -- it is a brilliant initiative so we decided to join! Thanks to a grant we received from Starbucks, we were able to do two things. First, we organized several mock interviews for deaf youth to gain new skills and experience interviewing with real corporations. Secondly, we interviewed many deaf people asking them questions about what they do. For the next year or so, we will release an interview every Wednesday! We hope you'll love our #DeafAtWork videos and learn about different careers that deaf people have. Follow our #DeafAtWork series online! This series is to show the deaf community that anything is possible, we can do anything -- here's to inspiring everyone through these interviews showing that deaf people can work. Thank you.

Video cuts to grey background with the NAD logo quickly changing in different bright colors from teal to white to black to hot pink to green to orange to teal to yellow to purple to finally the official NAD logo with copyright text underneath “The National Association of the Deaf (c) 2019 All Rights Reserved”.
