My role here at Dawn Sign Press is chief executive officer and executive producer. I’m responsible for overseeing seven departments – accounting, warehouse, shipping, production, [customer relations], marketing, and IT. I make sure that things run smoothly with shipping, orders, production of new books, and other programs. We produce new products here every year as we need to be able to update our inventory with a steady stream of new products. We cannot have a static inventory.

I grew up in the hearing world where jobs, opportunities and experiences for deaf people were limited. I was faced with naysayers telling me I couldn’t do things.

When I enrolled at Gallaudet, I was surprised at the many opportunities that were available. Working and trying my hand at different areas gave me ideas of what I thought I’d like to do and what I didn’t like. By working, I discovered what I wanted to do. I’m thankful for the opportunities and internships that Gallaudet provided me.

Gallaudet is always there. My childhood friends from the hearing world have come and gone, just faded away, never to be seen again, but I have friends from Gallaudet everywhere in the U.S. and all over the world that I still keep in touch with. They’re what I call “friends for life,” who will always be there for me.
