The annual National Deaf Youth Day on March 6th celebrates the unique identity of deaf and hard of hearing youth and their accomplishments. For the first time this year, the NAD will co-host a mock interview event with four Jr. NAD chapters, one from each region, for deaf and hard of hearing students. This new event will allow students an opportunity to experience and practice their interview skills with real employers! We will be partnering with local organizations and companies to do these mock interviews. Nearly 100 deaf youth are expected to participate. The National Deaf Youth Day events are part of a larger project between NAD and The Starbucks Foundation aimed at inspiring and empowering deaf and hard of hearing youth (ages 18-30) to explore a variety of career and employment options. #nationaldeafyouthday

CHANEL: Every year on March 6th, we celebrate National Deaf Youth Day. This day is about recognizing deaf people and their accomplishments and also, to encourage our deaf youth that they can do anything. At the NAD, we’re committed to including and celebrating our youth! This year we will have mock interviews. High school students across the U.S. will have the opportunity to interview with local organizations and companies. The mock interviews will be in four locations: Region I will be hosted at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in D.C. Region II will be hosted at the Metro Jr. NAD Chapter in Omaha. Region III will be hosted at the Texas School for the Deaf in Texas. Region IV will be hosted at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont in California. We want to expand to more groups rather than just four schools for next year. We’re learning as we go this year and we hope to expand to more schools next year. If you are interested in getting involved next year, please let us know! Mock interviews will give additional tools and resources for high school students to learn and practice their interview skills for their summer job plans, future career and internship opportunities, and to start thinking about what to study in college. This opportunity to meet real employers will benefit the students in the future.
