In 1989, Arizona Deaf student Suzanne Smith was the first deaf person to call the White House using a TDD. This was made possible by the late Sen. McCain's advocacy.

Suzanne is now a teacher at the Texas School for the Deaf. She shares her memory and considers Sen. McCain a hero.
