Today I read & learn something new on Torah Parshah #18: Mishpatim (The Judgments) on Exodus 21:1 to 24:18.
Exodus 23:20-26 TLV
20 “Behold, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and to bring you into the place that I have prepared.
21Â Watch for Him and listen to His voice. Do not rebel against Him because He will not pardon your transgression, for My Name is in Him.
22Â But if you listen closely to His voice, and do everything I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. 23Â For My angel will go before you, and bring you to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and the Jebusites, and I will cut them off. 24Â You are not to bow down to their gods or serve them, or do what they do. Rather, you are to utterly overthrow them, and break their pillars in pieces.25Â You are to serve Adonai your God, and He will bless your food and your water. Moreover I will take sickness away from your midst. 26Â None will miscarry nor be barren in your land, and I will fill up the number of your days.
By Andrew G. Roth: Exodus 23:21 in Hebrew to English
HISHAMER MIPANAV USHMA VIKOTO VE’ASITA KOL ASHER ADEBER VEAYAVTI ET-OVEYCHA VETSARTI ET-TSOREYCHA (Exodus 23:21)
Guard yourself in his presence and heed his voice. Do not rebel against him, since My Name is in him. (Exodus 23:21)
He will not pardon your disobedience.
This is key...no angel can independently forgive sin, but the Son of Man does have authority on earth to forgive sins normally.
Therefore this “angel†cannot be “ordinary†in that sense because there is no reason to even bring the matter up unless the angel could forgive sin and normally would do so, but he is under orders not to in this case should Israel rebel. That specialness of this “angel†is further explained by the next line, “for My Name is in him†because all angels have EL— the title of Elohim in their names but only the Son of Yah has YAH in his name, which makes him superior to the angels. (Hebrews 1:1-5)
Thank you for watching. Shalom!
