How powerful are demons and Satan? Are they able to resist Jesus' will? We will see in this story.

Transcript:
This is devotion #62 in our study of Mark. Jesus has just been confronted by a demon-possessed man (Mark 5:1-5).

This man lived among the tombs, and roaming up in the mountains. The unclean spirit (evil spirit of Satan) had the man under it’s control. He was so violent that he could not live with his family anymore. He was alone… (Mark 5:6).

Scripture here tells us that the man “ran and fell down before him”. Wow! This man who was constantly enraged by the evil spirit that indwelt him is now postured in WORSHIP! How can that be? Would Satan run to the Son of God and fall down in worship to Him? Definitely not! Even though this unclean (evil) spirit has control over this man; it does not have control over our God! By the power of Jesus, the man fell in worship!

Let’s read on… (Mark 5:7-9)

The demons are speaking through the man now, using the man’s voice! And by what name are they calling our Lord? (Mark 5:7b-7c)
*Brad, I suggest you highlight ‘Jesus’ and ‘Son of the most high God’ when you show the verse.

This unclean spirit recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God! This spirit is powerful! But not powerful enough to resist God. (Hebrews 1:3a) Jesus is ALL POWERFUL… This is part of Jesus’ character. The common theological word for this is “omnipotent”. ‘Omni’ means all, and ‘potent’ means powerful.
Yes!
That’s our God!!
And by the power of His word- He reigns! No one can resist our God. As Christians, we do not want to resist Him. He is our Defender.

(Psalm 119:114, 62:6, 18:1-2)

Praise the Lord today! Love Him and thank Him!
Coram Deo
