NAD President Melissa shares good news regarding the EHDI Reauthorization and the NAD's disaster relief fund.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION AND TRANSCRIPT: Melissa is standing in front of a green plant and a staircase inside. A small white NAD logo appears on bottom right corner.

MELISSA: Hello, I'm Melissa. It's been over a year since I was elected President of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), and I have learned so much since then! I've gone to national, state, and local conferences and I've met many people. What I learn and take away from these meetings is so valuable that I cannot keep it to myself, so I always share them with the NAD Board. I use the opportunity to engage with other NAD Board members and discuss current trends and issues. We exchange ideas together. From there, the NAD Board members share the resources with others. This is an important process. The second item I'd like to discuss is the amendments we wanted for the re-authorization of the EHDI Bill, the NAD’s proposed amendments passed Congress! The Bill now waits for the U.S. President to sign. Tawny will release a video soon discussing how these amendments succeeded with your support. This is important because we asked for you to contact your Congressional representatives, and it was successful because of you and your contacting them! Without your efforts, the amendments would not have passed. I remind you that this is not a one-time thing, we must continue to work together to be successful with future bills and achieve more. The third item I'd like to discuss is about the NAD's disaster relief fund, which was established in 2001. Recently, a group contacted the NAD asking for financial support for deaf and hard of hearing survivors that experienced a disaster. The NAD Board unanimously agreed to donate to the important cause. That donation will not be the last. We want you to be aware that the NAD has this fund, any time there is a disaster and deaf people need support, please contact the NAD to apply for funding from the disaster relief fund. Thank you.

Video fades to a soft white background with several different font types showing "NAD" very quickly. Copyright video ends with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) logo centered. Blue text below the logo appears, "A production of the National Association of the Deaf (copyright) 2017 All Rights Reserved".
