We continue to study the parable in Mark 4:26-29.
There will not be voice-over for our devotionals while my wife, Tammy, is not able to speak normally due to her voice chord disorder. I will be posting the written manuscript for each devotion so the hearing can understand also.

Last devotion “More Mysteriesâ€, we had an overview of the parable that Jesus is teaching to His disciples in chapter 4, verses 26 through 29. Jesus starts this parable by likening the parable to the kingdom of God. Let’s read the passage…
And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.†Mark 4:26-29
Okay! There is a deep spiritual meaning that Jesus is teaching us here. It’s important that we understand everything we can glean from Jesus’ words.
The seed is sown. Then man goes about his day. There is nothing more he can do. The seed is in the fertile soil. The rains will come and they will go. This is the way of nature. But who is the God of nature? The God of the Bible!
By the power of God who is sovereign over all things, from the seed comes the bounty of the earth. The seed grows and blooms and bears its fruit!
And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. (Mark 4:26-27)
As Jesus said…â€So is the kingdom of Godâ€â€¦
Matthew Henry, a preacher of long ago, explains the analogy Jesus made to the kingdom of God this way…â€Thus the word of grace, when it is received in faith, is in the heart a work of grace, and the preachers contribute nothing to it.â€
By God’s grace, we have fiath. It is likened to a seed that is planted in the earth, yet our faith is “planted†in our heart. God grows a seed from where it is sown in the earth. The Holy Spirit, through applied grace, slowly sanctifies the heart of the believer.
The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. (Mark 4:28)
When the fruit is fully ripened; it is ready for the harvest. As when the believer has matured in their life journey of sanctification, then Jesus will take them from this life to eternal life in His kingdom.
But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.†(Mark 4:29)
We do not know the day or the hour, but we live our lives giving our utmost in our everyday Christian walk. Coram Deo
