Hello everyone!

I am Chris Haulmark, running for Kansas's Third Congressional District!

Today's vlog begins with an ASL sign for Hurricane Irma: [ASL sign: HURRICANE IRMA]

This new ASL sign was invented by Deaf Floridian, Heidi Branch.

Thank you, Heidi!

My thoughts and true well wishes are shared with Floridans currently experiencing Hurricane Irma's impact.

On that note, there's more information to add to yesterday’s vlog.

The Daily Moth, an ASL-using daily news video, shared about the surprising action that Manatee County, Florida- the municipal government using the inadequate “ASL interpreter,” again held another press conference for the public, sharing more important information.

This time, there was no American Sign Language interpreter, again creating a lack of accessibility for the Deaf community!

The Daily Moth, contacted an ASL interpreter agency in Manatee County, which had
an ASL interpreter scheduled for the second press conference.

However, the Manatee County officials canceled the American Sign Language interpreter, which would have provided important information to the Deaf community by using a completely qualified interpreter fluent in American Sign Language.

For shame!

On a different note, it is a delight to share that Hurricane Irma watchers could view ASL interpreter Sam Harris, whom demonstrates ASL at its best, showing how stunning and beautiful our language is!

This is EXACTLY what American Sign Language is!

Which we- the Deaf people- must have complete access to!

Mr. Harris is a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), which means that he is actually a native Deaf person whom specializes exclusively in American Sign Language.

A CDI receives the spoken language from another sign language interpreter, whom can listen to the source information and translate into ASL at second-language capacity.

Using a CDI increases ASL proficiency for all of us Deaf people to completely comprehend the valuable information that was being shared by officials on Hurricane Irma.

YES! I WANT to hire Mr. Harris and other Certified Deaf Interpreters to join our congressional campaign team!

We WILL use American Sign Language at its BEST as we share our fully accessible messages with the public.

Yes, WE CAN! make an impact in the demand for improving Congressional accessibility, while simultaneously educating and exposing the world to OUR language: American Sign Language!
