Hello!

I am Chris Haulmark, running for Kansas's Third Congressional District.

I am delighted with what happened today!

Kansas City Star hosted Representative Yoder's town hall meeting via their Facebook Live video.

A team of two American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters was provided for the entire town hall meeting.

These ASL interpreters were Amanda Wittman and Allison Gile, whom were extraordinarily impressive and highly skilled, being regarded as top-quality interpreters!

I, too, am extremely impressed with their ASL interpreting capabilities.

In fact, I wish to commend and gratefully thank Kansas City Star for providing these highly competent interpreters for Representative Yoder’s town hall session tonight.

As a Deaf ASL-user, I am very satisfied with the interpreting access.

However, there were still obstacles for other Deaf and disabled people to not having complete access, particularly constituents who are not fluent in American Sign Language.

If captions had been provided on the video, the Kansas City Star would have provided those non-ASL Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and disabled people full access to the session.

On the Facebook-Live feed, everyone can see Rep. Yoder speaking at the town hall meeting.

Here, watch this video clip.

[Video clip: Representative Yoder is a white, with tan, male, wearing white long sleeved button up shirt with light blue tie. He is holding a handheld microphone while walking around. The interpreter is a white woman with short hair in the bottom right corner window wearing black long sleeved shirt.]

The square at the bottom right corner is the ASL interpreter.

In the main video, Representative Yoder is speaking with his selected audience in the city hall building.

The comments during the live video are complaints by watchers regarding Rep. Yoder.

Absolutely!

THAT discontent, along with speaking up for full constituent access, is why I am challenging Kevin Yoder for the 2018 Third District election.

As both a candidate and a Congressperson, I aim to act as the true representative for all of Kansas’s Third Congressional District's constituents, not just a few selected.

This inclusive representation is my goal - including all constituents, especially those disenfranchised by Kevin Yoder tonight, and every time!

As your elected representative, I, Chris Haulmark, will truly be accessible to all Kansans and Americans!

Let's make it happen!
