IMEI steht für International Mobile Station Equipment Identity und ist ein 15 stelliger Zahlen-Code, der einem Smartphone zugeordnet wird. Jedes Smartphone hat einen anderen Code, so dass man es eindeutig identifizieren kann.

Die IMEI wird an Smartphones vergeben, die den Mobilfunkstandard GSM oder UMTS nutzen. Mobile Geräte, die den Standard CDMA verwenden, bekommen stattdessen eine 14stellige MEID. Letzteres wird eher in den USA und in Asien eingesetzt.
What is IMEI?

IMEI stands for International Mobile Station Equipment Identity and is a 15-digit number code assigned to a smartphone. Each smartphone has a different code, so you can clearly identify it.

The IMEI is awarded to smartphones that use the mobile radio standard GSM or UMTS. Mobile devices that use the CDMA standard will instead get a 14-digit MEID. The latter is used rather in the USA and in Asia.
