HOWARD: Hi. I would like to discuss the recent elections. The election results will lead to big changes, including a different President, a different Congress, and a different Administration. So what does this mean for deaf rights going forward? For 136 years, the NAD has worked with and against many different Presidents, Administrations, and Congress. Throughout all these years, the NAD has always done so with the same mission: to preserve, protect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of all deaf and hard of hearing people in the USA. This means we work on behalf of every deaf and hard of hearing person no matter where they're from, what their background is, what kind of education they had such as a mainstreamed program or a school for the deaf, whether they are a woman, man, gender non-conforming, or whether they identify as LGBTQ, what their race or national origin is, or whatever identity they have. Our focus is on every deaf and hard of hearing person’s access to all areas of life.  One area is education. The current state of deaf education is not great -- we must focus on improving education for all deaf and hard of hearing children. Language deprivation cannot continue. Employment is another area of focus, and the unemployment rate for deaf and hard of hearing people in the U.S. is terrible and we must improve it. Another area is technology. Technology is rapidly changing, but we cannot be left behind so deaf and hard of hearing people must be considered with each advancement of technology. Healthcare and health insurance is also important. Access to healthcare communication and having coverage is very important for deaf and hard of hearing people. Law enforcement is also important, we have seen incidents and situations with law enforcement affecting many deaf and hard of hearing people from different backgrounds. There are too many failures to communicate resulting in harm and shootings that could have been avoided, and we need to improve interactions between law enforcement and our community. With these areas and many more of equal importance, the NAD has a lot of work to do regardless of who is the U.S. President or in Congress. The NAD will continue to be vigilant and fight for our rights. We need your support to further our mission's work, 136 years and counting, for every deaf and hard of hearing American. Thank you.
