NAD President responds to the police shooting in North Carolina.

Video description and transcript: Melissa Draganac-Hawk stands inside NAD Headquarters. A small white NAD logo appears on bottom right corner.

MELISSA: Hello, my name is Melissa. I’d like to take a moment to respond regarding a recent situation that resulted in the death of Daniel Harris, who was shot by the police. On behalf of the NAD, we recognize this unfortunate tragedy. We express our heartfelt apologies to Daniel’s family and the deaf and hard of hearing community. Daniel isn’t the first deaf person who was wrongfully shot by the police. The shooting that took place was wrong. All police departments every state should undergo appropriate training to learn best practices when faced with a deaf person. If a person does not respond to verbal commands, the Police needs to be aware of the possibility that the person may be deaf and not react by shooting. All police departments must work with us to improve and avoid this from happening again. Thank you.

Video fades to a soft white background with several different font types showing "NAD" very quickly. Copyright video ends with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) logo centered. Blue text below the logo appears, "A production of the National Association of the Deaf (copyright) 2016 All Rights Reserved".
