Do Atheists Pray?

An Atheist share his reflections on prayer. If Christians want prayer in the public schools and at the government functions, they must tolerate all kinds of prayers, including the prayers of Satanists, Wiccans, or Pagans. When Christians demand prayer but actively discriminate other kind of prayers, it is not the religious freedom the U.S. Constitution guarantees us. When Christians judge other kinds prayers and call them 'heretic or demonic,' they are pressing for a privilege that exclude all other religious prayers and tolerate only the 'Christian prayer.' This Atheist must strongly disagree with that.
Also, this Atheist noticed that virtually almost all religions in the world pray. Why do they pray? Who do they pray to? What do they pray to? I believe prayer is one of oldest superstition in the world. It probably started with our earliest ancestors and the practice was passed down through thousands of years. That is why almost all religions in the world pray today.
I believe that the science helps us understand the reality. Since, no scientific instruments or any study have not been able to detect any power (spiritual or anything supernatural) behind prayers, they conclude that it belongs to the realm of psychology. Prayers help people feel better about themselves or the circumstances.
The Atheist can appreciate the human connection behind of prayer. It is an acceptable acts of compassion toward other's misfortunate or needs. I would gladly say prayers for other people in need but it does not mean that I believe in any deities or spiritual forces.
