At least nine people are dead and several others hurt in a mass shooting in Munich [this is the sign], Germany at a large shopping mall/area. There might be at least three gunmen and one of the dead might be one of the shooters. So there might be two on the loose, they’re not yet caught.

The first reports of shooting was at a McDonalds near the mall. There is a video of what seems to be a gunman shooting at people — see this video that was on CNN. Very scary, he’s just shooting at people in broad daylight. Very scary. There was a witness that told CNN that the gunman targeted children who sat to eat. We don’t know yet from the police if the dead includes children. This witness also said the gunman shouted “I am German” and “Allah Akbar (God is Great).” There are some pictures of a gunman on top of a parking garage.

Police swarmed the area, evacuating people while looking for the shooters. They didn’t look like they were just there to secure the area but rather in an active manhunt. Police told everybody in the area to stay home and public transportation, including buses and tram, was suspended. The area is under a lockdown. There are helicopters and many police officers, including heavily armed officers, patrolling the area. Very scary and they haven’t found the gunmen, it’s possible they escaped.

The exact identity or motives of the gunmen is not clear, police suspect it’s an act of terrorism. If so, this is the second attack in Germany this week — on Monday night, there was a 17-year old male, a refugee from Afghanistan, who attacked people in a train with an ax, injuring five people — in the train and a woman walking a dog outside. Police shot him dead. This raised tensions in Germany, and now this mall shooting happened. Another big incident in Europe was last week — the terrible truck attack in Nice, France.

This mall is near the Olympics venue during the 1972 Olympics in Munich — and that one was hit by terrorism back then — when 8 terrorists from Palestine broke into the Olympic Village, where athletes stayed at, killing 11 Israeli Olympic athletes.

Very sad to see another attack that is targeted towards innocent civilians.
