Washington D.C. closed out the primary season Tuesday, June 14 when registered Democrats there went to the polls. Hillary Clinton, already the party’s presumptive nominee got nearly 80 percent of the votes.

Bernie Sanders received just over 21 percent of the votes which was enough to earn him a share of the 20 delegates that were up for grabs. In D.C. a candidate must receive at least 15 percent to receive any delegates…which are awarded proportionately.

A meeting with Clinton earlier in the day led to plenty of speculation the Bernie Sanders would drop out of the race after the last voters cast their primary ballots. His aides said not to expect any announcement on Tuesday.

He has promised throughout his campaign to keep his issues at the forefront all the way to the late July Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. More recently he has pledged to help beat Donald Trump, a statement many see as suggesting he may be ready to back Clinton.

Polls taken before the mass murder in Orlando showed Clinton with a safe lead over Trump in a race for the presidency. After the attack that left 50 dead the two candidates took vastly different stances. Trump stepped up his ban on Muslims in America rhetoric and Clinton took an anti-assault weapon stance. A poll taken Monday showed Trump is the candidate people feel is best qualified to protect the country from such attacks.

There is no information yet, showing how a growing number of powerful Republicans who have been condemning Trump’s statements as inflammatory may affect public confidence in his abilities to protect them. With a little more than a month before the GOP’s convention in Cleveland, Ohio, Trump is going to need to regain the support of his fellow Republicans. Just last week he told party officials he was going to need their help to secure the money he needs to run a presidential campaign.
