The NHL will be adding team number 31 that will be based in Las Vegas, Nevada as long as a $500,000 expansion fee is paid. This team is supposed to be added as early as the 2017-18 season.
If the expansion is approved by the league, the NHL will be the first major professional sports league to have a team in Las Vegas. If that happens, it could possibly open doors for other leagues. It would also be a groundbreaking moment for professional sports in the United States to have a franchise in Vegas. Once the team is approved, the games will be played at the T-Mobile arena.
To become official, the NHL board of governors will have to vote. Voting will take place on Wednesday, June 22.
