OAD president weekly vlog 05-26-2016
Hello. My name is Chad Ludwig, President of the Oregon Association of the Deaf. I want to cover a few things with you.
We at OAD represent Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf Plus community members. We are all inspired and encouraged by Nyle DiMarco by his competition on DWTS and his winning the Mirror Ball. Wow! We all want to congratulate him for his accomplishment and we look forward to his next steps. We are all behind you!
We at OAD want to let you know that we support all groups of people and what they want to set up or have us involved with. We support all of these groups. For example, we support Deaf Services of Southern Oregon (DSSO) in Medford; and Deaf Friends of Central Oregon in Bend; ODEAF, which is Oregon Deaf Empowerment and Advocacy for Families, in Eugene -- they serve the state in general; Deaf People United (DPU) of Oregon; We the Deaf People (WTDP).
There are many groups that are being set up in the Eugene area. This is great. We will all partner together to work with different groups, agencies, and faiths. We at OAD are called for community leadership from different groups to be involved with different meetings. We will meet together in October to talk about how we can partner and collaborate together for the future of our community. I am looking forward to that meeting.
Now, we at OAD will have an event in Eugene on June 18. We will have a board meeting in the morning, and you are welcome to attend. We will have lunch together, and then in the afternoon we will have a town hall meeting to discuss the Community Needs Assessment. It is so critical that you attend that meeting. Come to the meeting.
In the evening we will have a movie set up by the Deaf Club. I am looking forward to the movie.
Lastly, NAD, National Association of the Deaf, has a conference planned in Phoenix, Arizona this coming summer. Chris Wagner, the President of NAD, will end his term. We know that David O. Reynolds from Northern California has volunteered to run for President. We are waiting for a second person to run. The other individual will announce they will be running for NAD President around June 3. That is the deadline for someone to submit their application to run for President of NAD. Once all the applications have been submitted, we will let you know who is running for that position.
You can contact the Oregon delegate, Alethea Boyer-Mularski, at Link and let her know "please vote for this candidate" or "do not vote for this candidate"; it is up to you to decide. She will get a feel for what the Oregon community wants and then cast her vote for you! It is really important. If you have any questions you can email Link .
