HOWARD: Hello! For this month’s #AskHoward video, I’d like to chat about the upcoming elections. As you’ve seen in the media, the U.S. elections are underway. Who will win the White House? What about Senators and Representatives? No matter what political party you are a part of, I encourage you to be a registered voter! Without deaf and hard of hearing registered voters, we lose our voice in the elections. If you’re not sure how to register, contact the NAD and we can support you. If you are already a registered voter, then you should receive information about where and when to vote. The same thing applies to the NAD. All NAD members are encouraged to be a part of the conference, even if you attend or not. You can vote on NAD priorities by being a NAD member and share your opinion about the upcoming motions. NAD delegates have three important areasto vote on at the conference.
1) Determine the NAD Board for the next two years;
2) Review submitted bylaw amendments, you can submit a motion if a part of the bylaws need to be updated – the bylaws are always evolving; and
3) The most important part of the elections in my opinion is the decision of the top five priorities – this directs the NAD as to what to work on for the next two years, these priorities are important for the NAD to work on to improve the lives of all deaf and hard of hearing Americans. While delegates make the decision on all three votes, any NAD member can submit a motion priority.
However, you must submit bylaw amendments and motion priorities by May 15, 2016.
