India is home to more than 280 million cows and 200 million more sheep, goats, yaks and buffalo. According to satellite data from India’s space program, these hundreds of millions of animals send 13 million tons of methane into the earth’s atmosphere. Pound for pound, methane traps 25 times as much heat as carbon dioxide does.

So reducing animal flatulence might actually do some good, particularly since India expects to double its coal production by 2019. So Indian scientists are experimenting with cattle feed, hoping to find a formula that create less gas for the cows.

Scientists say most of the methane from cows comes from belching, not farting. Some scientists are even trying to create miniature cows which produce less manure and less methane.

Hopefully this work will help save the world.

Those are our top stories for today.

Thank you for watching and we’ll see you tomorrow.
