ASL-mind discussion about "feminism." Dawn Elaine's post is at Link
Main points:
--"Boob Power" disrespectful to women. Men need to step back and allow women to have their ASL discussion. This point also applies to other intersectional situations.
--Don't allow English to take over in the absence of ASL. We have the opportunity to define feminism within ASL, on our own terms. Feminism is a big concept with many groups of people within. We can come up with various terms, and be respectful of each other's terms as they may apply to aspects of feminism.
--The ASL word "woman" has issues. The root words have the semblance of being second in a hierarchy under men, so some people view that as problematic. I encourage people to think of new possibilities.
Looking forward to your thoughts!
